Dear Friends,

The developments of the past week in relation to the growth of the Coronavirus has changed life for us all beyond what any of us could have imagined. I certainly never thought that I would need to acquire the skills required to transmit pastoral messages by social media! However, this is where we find ourselves and it is now no longer possible to ignore the reality of the challenges and uncertainties that this situation presents to us.

Following the suspension of all Public Worship, I want to reassure you all that the Church has not closed- up shop. We remain here in the Community to serve and offer whatever support we can, especially to those in our community who are vulnerable during these times. A couple of initiatives which we are working on are, to look at how we can use our Parish Website and Facebook page in new ways that allow us to keep in contact. Initially, I am planning to send out a regular message of hope and encouragement using our Facebook Page which is: Saint John the Evangelist, Lund. I need to ask for your patience in this as I learn how to use these new skills which, up to now, have remained a mystery to me!

Church remains open daily for personal prayer and reflection, together with the lighting of prayer candles. Please, use this sacred space to experience some peace and quiet in these frantic times. We are blessed with a beautiful place of worship which posses a wonderful sense of spiritual presence.

Finally, we need to be aware of the needs of others currently and, one of my concerns relates to an increase in food poverty. The demand on Foodbanks is increasing and, once the schools have closed, the demand will be even greater. Please, support the work of the Fylde Foodbank by donating food items. A collection box is available in the church porch for donations, please.

Finally, be assured of my own prayers for you all and for the parish. One of the duties and joys of a parish priest is to carry the needs of those he serves to God in prayer. I shall be doing this daily for you. Please, be in touch if I can be of help in any way.

Yours, as ever,

Fr John
